Auto repair
Get to the bottom of starting trouble.
Our auto repair services include batteries, alternators and starters. If your car will not start or struggles to turn over, our Porter team can inspect the issue.
A starting problem can have more than one cause. Describe the symptoms when you call so we can plan the next step for your vehicle.
Does it crank, click or stay silent?
How the vehicle behaves when you try to start it is useful information. A slow crank, a clicking sound and normal cranking without the engine starting are different symptoms. Note whether dashboard lights illuminate and whether the problem occurs every time or only after the vehicle has been parked.
At Rudy’s services batteries, alternators and starters as part of our Porter auto repair offering. A starting complaint does not automatically mean a new battery is the complete answer. Tell our team about the age of the battery, any recent replacement and previous charging or starting repairs.
Bring the history of the problem.
- When the vehicle last started and ran normally.
- Whether the issue returned after a jump-start or battery replacement.
- Any charging-system warning or other dashboard message.
- Recent electrical work or added accessories.
Ask what findings support the proposed battery, alternator or starter repair and what the estimate includes. If the engine cranks but will not run, engine diagnostics and fuel-system service may be relevant instead. Describing the behavior lets the team discuss the appropriate next step.
Plan the visit for a vehicle that will not start.
Call before having the vehicle delivered to FM 1314 so arrival arrangements can be discussed. Follow the owner’s manual for any jump-start procedure; procedures differ and a successful jump-start does not identify the original fault. Our Vehicle Troubleshooting Guide offers another way to organize your observations before contacting the shop.

Batteries, Alternators & Starters: common questions
Does a successful jump-start prove that I only need a battery?
No. Getting the vehicle started does not establish why the problem occurred. Tell the team if the concern returns, whether there is a charging warning and how old the battery is.
What if the engine cranks but will not start?
Describe that behavior when calling 281-354-7839. It is different from a no-crank complaint and may involve engine or fuel-system diagnostics. At Rudy’s offers those services as well as battery, alternator and starter work.
